Dustin Humphrey for Insight
While I was looking at photography award winners, I came across Dustin Humphrey’s collection for surf brand Insight which took First Place for the Commercial/Advertising category at the Sony World Photography Awards. Thinking about what what my friend Tom said the other day about how he sometimes felt bored by a lot of contemporary photography, I felt this was delightfully unordinary.

Picasso: Drawing With Light
LIFE photographer Gjon Mili visited Picasso in 1949. Mili showed the artist some of his photographs of ice skaters with tiny lights affixed to their skates jumping in the dark—and Picasso’s mind began to race. The series of photographs that follows—Picasso’s light drawings—were made with a small flashlight in a dark room; the images vanished almost as soon as they were created.

George of Blacklisted interviewed by Bad Luxury

The new Blacklisted album has a line that says “No one will ever come for me, No one will ever comfort me”, I feel as though I am included in that “No one”. I see myself as just a man behind a curtain. I may be on stage,...

Burning Fight book out now
‘For the past six years I have been assembling a book about the nineties hardcore music scene called Burning Fight: The Nineties Hardcore Revolution in Ethics, Politics, Spirit, and Sound. While Steven Blush’s American Hardcore was an excellent examination of the pioneers of the hardcore punk movement, after reading his book one gets the impression that hardcore died in 1986. Although that...

In a relatively unforeseen move, Nike SB are dropping the Air Zoom FC as part of their 2009 May release schedule. This was originally a shoe intended for football but was used by some talented pros including Gino Ianucci. As he now rides for Nike it’s not unlikely that he suggested this. A far cry away from the chunky silhouttes of the Dunks, these should hopefully deliver better...

Låt den rätte komma in (2008)
I just watched this movie on the recommendation of a close friend - I’d never even heard of it before. It is without a doubt one of, if not the most romantic films I’ve ever seen. Directed by Tomas Alfredson, Låt den rätte komma in (Let The Right One In) juxtaposes beautiful cinematography and a charming narrative with horrific vampiric violence to mindblowing effect.
